Centre Hikes Mid-Day Meal Material Costs; New Rates Effective from May 1
New Delhi: The Central Government has announced a hike in the material costs for the 'PM POSHAN' (Mid-Day Meal) scheme, impacting 11.20 crore students across 10.36 lakh government schools (Classes 1-8) nationwide.
In a statement on Thursday, the Union Ministry of Education confirmed that the cooking costs have been increased by 9.50% based on the Price Index. These new rates are effective from May 1, 2025.
- This decision will place an additional financial burden of ₹954 crore on the Central Government for the 2025-26 financial year.
- Additionally, the Education Ministry highlighted that the Centre supplies 26 lakh metric tonnes of food grains to states through the PM POSHAN scheme, at a cost of ₹9,000 crore.
- The total expenditure for the mid-day meal per student for Balavatika/Primary is ₹12.13 and for Upper Primary/High School is ₹17.62.

న్యూఢిల్లీ: దేశవ్యాప్తంగా 10.36 లక్షల ప్రభుత్వ పాఠశాలల్లో 1-8 తరగతులు చదువుతున్న 11.20 కోట్ల మంది విద్యార్థులకు సేవలందిస్తున్న 'పీఎం పోషణ్' (మధ్యాహ్న భోజన) పథకం మెటీరియల్ ధరలను కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం పెంచింది.
ధరల సూచీ ఆధారంగా వంట ఖర్చులను 9.50% మేర పెంచినట్లు కేంద్ర విద్యాశాఖ గురువారం ఒక ప్రకటనలో స్పష్టం చేసింది. ఈ పెంచిన ధరలు మే 1, 2025 నుంచే అమలులోకి వస్తాయని పేర్కొంది.
- ఈ పెంపు నిర్ణయంతో 2025-26 ఆర్థిక సంవత్సరంలో కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వంపై రూ. 954 కోట్ల అదనపు భారం పడనుంది.
- పీఎం పోషణ్ పథకం ద్వారా రాష్ట్రాలకు రూ. 9 వేల కోట్ల విలువైన 26 లక్షల మెట్రిక్ టన్నుల బియ్యాన్ని కేంద్రం ఉచితంగా సరఫరా చేస్తున్నట్లు విద్యాశాఖ వెల్లడించింది.
- అన్ని ఖర్చులు కలిపితే బాలవాటిక/ప్రైమరీ విద్యార్థి భోజన వ్యయం రూ. 12.13, ప్రాథమికోన్నత పాఠశాలల విద్యార్థి భోజన వ్యయం రూ. 17.62గా ఉన్నట్లు తెలిపింది.
